I play bass
I’ve been playing bass for over 20 years, electric and upright. I’ve played many styles over the years – rock, jazz, big band, punk, metal, folk. It’s all good, and I’m happy to play any type of music.
I am also a songwriter, singer, guitarist, producer and engineer. So I fully understand the role of the bass in a song, and when to play, how much to play, and what not to play. I always play for the song, I’ll save the showing-off for my solo record!
Samples
Unbelievable Luck – Michelle
Pop-rock song with a busy McCartney-esq bass line, played with pick. I’m also playing guitar and backing vocals.
Unbelievable Luck – Winter
Funky bass line, played with a pick. Also singing lead vocals and playing lead guitar.
Unbelievable Luck – Bottlerocket
Simple, supportive bass played on a fretless electric.
Jazz Trio – Like Someone in Love
With Hiro Homma on guitar and Aaron Pinkston on drums. Simple jazz song, i’m singing and playing upright. Nothing too fancy. And it’s in the wrong key for me, too high.
Young Elderz Band
These are from a session I was hired to play bass on and engineer. These guys are a Rootsy/Folky/Reggae/Soul band, very cool stuff. Heard all the songs for the first time the day of the session.
